SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA, USA, April 22, 2019— A.I.TAGS SMT. INC. formally launches its Internet of Things and its Cognex Machine Vision-powered A.I.TAGS SMT SYSTEM Automated Dairy Cattle Estrus Detection System in the United States.

The A.I.TAGS SMT System offers busy dairy farmers a completely automated method to identify and segregate only those animals ready for insemination. The A.I.TAGS SMT System reduces labor, eliminates unreliable “gut instinct” identification, improves breeding cycles, and lowers animal stress. The system has patents pending.

The A.I.TAGS SMT System is equipped with Cognex machine vision technology. The Cognex system is loaded with a preset pattern, when cows or heifers leave the milking parlor and walk under the Cognex camera, the camera will first identify the animals by searching for the chevron image and then will search for the preset pattern that will match it for the  “12 hour rule” of heat detection.

Competing systems look fancy, but don’t deliver results dairy farmers care about. Dairy businesses don’t need data, they need actions that deliver profits.

The A.I.TAGS SMT™ System offers five distinct advantages:

Advantage #1: Labor Reduction

The A.I.TAGS SMT System reduces labor by eliminating the need to identify dairy cows in estrus by sight. No matter what visual system is used, other systems rely on visual identification by humans by either sight or be reading data and reading data requires training. The A.I.TAGS SMT System requires NO technical training. Simply apply the tags and watch the cows and heifers line up to be inseminated.

Advantage #2: Eliminate “Gut Instinct”

The A.I.TAGS SMT System eliminates gut instinct by removing the human from the decision process. The Cognex machine vision technology makes this possible by simply identifying a preprogrammed pattern, a match is made in a fraction of a second. That exact match eliminates both false positives and false negatives. The Cognex equipment does not make mistakes, the action is deliberate and exact every time. The Cognex camera reads the A.I.TAG SMT tag like a Doctor reads a x-ray, it is an image of history, it is what happened.

Advantage #3: Improved Breeding Cycles

The A.I.TAGS SMT™ System improves breeding cycles by eliminating the chance that the dairy farmer will miss an insemination opportunity – even by a day. Each morning or evening, the farmer will find a pen of animals ready for service that are in the “12 Hour Rule” of breeding.

Advantage #4: Lower Animal Stress

The A.I.TAGS SMT System reduces animal stress by reducing the frequency of handling and examination by humans. This reduces the chance of injury to both the animal and the farmer, especially inexperienced farm hands.

Advantage #5: Auto Drafting Vet Checks

When doing herd checks, the producer can use a special A.I.TAGS DRAFTING TAG to identify animals needing a vet check. Just place a Drafting Tag on the animal and it will be automatically drafted when it leaves the milking parlor too. We made it easy.

A.I.TAGS SMT, INC. founder David A. Stampe is credited by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for inventing the original “Scratch Off” heat detectors nearly two decades ago in 2001. Stampe trademarked his original “Scratch Off” heat detector with the name Estrus Alert. Today more than 50 million “Scratch Off” type heat detectors have been sold worldwide under a variety of brand names. The company is dedicated to elevating this original idea by combining it with Cognex machine vision and Internet of Things technology. These products turned into turnkey solutions that improve animal health, reduce labor costs, and improve dairy operator profitability.
